Not Heating Well
Lukewarm air, or a house that won't reach temperature in mild weather, can mean a refrigerant, valve, or control problem.
Heat Pump Repair · Kokomo, IN
A heat pump heats and cools your home, so when it has a problem you feel it in every season. We repair heat pumps of all makes and models, including systems paired with a gas furnace.
Common Problems
Some heat pump behavior that looks strange is normal. These are the signs that something actually needs attention.
Lukewarm air, or a house that won't reach temperature in mild weather, can mean a refrigerant, valve, or control problem.
If the thermostat shows auxiliary or emergency heat most of the time, the heat pump may not be doing its share — and your electric bill will show it.
Light frost that clears during defrost is normal. A unit that stays encased in ice usually has a defrost, airflow, or refrigerant problem.
A heat pump that won't switch to cooling may have a reversing valve or control problem.
Humming, clicking, or silence from the outdoor unit can point to a capacitor, contactor, or motor problem.
Frequent on-off cycles, grinding, or rattling should be checked before they cause more damage.
What to Expect
A heat pump moves heat instead of making it, and it reverses direction between heating and cooling. That adds parts a standard air conditioner doesn't have — a reversing valve, a defrost control, and often backup electric heat. We test all of them to find the actual cause.
Refrigerant work is done by an EPA Section 608 Universal certified owner. Low refrigerant usually means a leak, so we look for the cause rather than just topping it off.

In cold, damp weather a heat pump periodically runs a defrost cycle. You may see steam and hear the fan stop for a few minutes — that's normal. If the unit stays iced over or the house won't stay warm, give us a call.

Cost
You'll know the price before any repair begins.
Capacitors and contactors are smaller repairs than a reversing valve, compressor, or refrigerant leak.
Finding and repairing a leak takes more time than a simple electrical part.
Some parts are brand-specific or harder to get for older systems.
Calls outside regular hours are priced differently. We'll tell you before we come out.
A service-call charge applies to the visit and is credited toward the repair if you go ahead with it. After-hours calls are priced differently. Call 765-863-3333 for current pricing.
Repair or Replace
We repair first when it's practical. A failed compressor or a major leak on an older system may make replacement the better value — and estimates for new systems are free.
